BSM could be nothing, and be everything

firstly, I pasted the definition of BSM source from Forrester here:
Software that dynamically links business-focused IT services to the underlying IT infrastructure. Abusiness-focused IT service may be a specific IT service or part of a business process, but it mustsupport a significant, visible business metric for a business owner.

these days I spend almost all of my time on network information platform for Petrol China. when I drill down to the BSM implementation, I really feel to touch the essential of what the meaning of BSM and what we should to do in following stage.

as known of us, currently, IT infrastructure has pass the earlier stage and most of CIO devote themselves into ITIL best practise, whaever IT facilities change with each passing day, not just only solve the problem in existing informantion system and bring value to business become the newly objective, more and more.

So far we could announce that which CIO couldn’t concern the CEO’s business won’t be good CIO. Fill the gap between IT technology and businees of enterprise is principal responsibility of current CIOs.

what determine an BSM project way to success>

firstly, preparation, abundant preparation, including budget and people.
then, CIO need to know what’s going on here and clearly understand the objective and how to archive them;
basically, their IT system could directly bring or accelerate their revenue, such teleco, energy, banking, goverment etc.
the most key points, gain the understanding and fully support form top board.

BSM, truly, locate itself in high end, lead the industry toward to completely new world. So BSM could be nothing, and be everything, determined by how to leveraging the solution for service.
